Junk Drawers
Okay - so I finally did it.
After nine years of looking at it... ignoring it... pretending it
didn't exist... I cleaned out my husband's junk drawer. Would you
believe that he hasn't even noticed... either that or he hasn't
mentioned it.
The drawer was up in his section of the bathroom and I can't even believe some of the things I found. Amazingly... a junk drawer is really a place to leave trash. It was mostly receipts, envelopes from old cards (some cards too), wrappers... lots of wrappers, old ticket stubs to concerts from years past, shaving gear from razors long gone, pens, pencils, highlighters, old medical supplies from broken fingers, cologne that he will never wear and so on...
Basically when it comes to my husband I never believe in tossing out ANYTHING of his without his permission. I think that is his responsibility to take care of that stuff. Here is what I did:
1. Pulled out all the trash (which was really a plastic grocery sack filled) and tossed that.
2. Pulled out all the "keepsake" items (cards, ticket stubs etc.) and put aside to put in his keepsake box.
3. Wiped out the drawer.
4. Put two small baskets one for all his grooming items and the other for miscellaneous "junk" items.
That's it... simple.. simple.. simple.
In my mind... junk drawers are totally logical... they just don't need to be filled with "junk."
