Traveling made easy...

Okay so I hope you are ready.. the kids are getting anxious and the parents are getting restless. Summer is almost here. For us here in Oregon Rose Festival is about to kick off and the ships are getting ready to roll in... The Rhodes are blooming and you can just smell the pollen in the air!

Time to hit the road... or in my case... the coast.. the mountains... the city... the desert... we have the best of all worlds in Oregon! Traveling can be so much work for some people it almost doesn't even seem like a vacation. It doesn't have to be that way though.

I read this fantastic article this past Sunday in The Oregonian Travel Section about "Take the Lug out of Luggage." It was a great five part piece on Traveling Preparedness. KC Summers from the LA Times-Washington Post wrote the Part one of the article and I love the perspective and tone of the entire piece... "You have to be ruthless..." There are mountains of resources in this article.. .websites... books... tips... They talk about luggage trends, DIY ideas, Gels and Liquids and more. This is a one-stop shop of information ladies and gentleman.

Here are the basic points that I think are so worth repeating:

1. Black is Your Friend!
2. Footwear Must Multi-Task
3. Re-think Your Gel and Liquid Needs.
4. Bulk-Up.
5. Make Your Cloths Work for You.
6. Be Ruthless about Reading Materials.
7. Leave a Little Extra Room in Your Bag.

Elissa Leibowitz Poma also wrote the fourth part of the piece about "Packing Products and DIY ideas" on ways to improve efficiency and logic while traveling. So practical... and now days we have to think differently. Traveling isn't the way it used to be... we have to require so much patience and willingness to be flexible and understanding that who needs to worry about packing issues while dealing with a toddler trying to get through the TSA gate... oh sorry.. that's just me...

My last piece of advice if you are planning any type of trip... PLAN AHEAD... no one ever looses if you plan ahead.
