TIP OF THE WEEK: Ice cube trays for more than ice

I was reading in Real Simple last night and I came across an awesome tip! The idea came in the form of making dinner time easier.  The tip giver, makes a batch of pesto, then fills an ice cube tray. When she is ready to make a quick pasta dish, she tosses in a cube of pesto - viola... dinner!

This of course got my wheels turning... what else could you use for ice cube trays?

Here are  7 ways you can use an ice cube tray:

1. Sauces - Freeze individual servings.

2. Cocktails - Need an on the-go cocktail? Freeze a pre-made drink and just add alcohol or mixer.

3. Kid Size Servings -Any soup or chili can be frozen for kid size servings.

4. Pre-Made Juice (pops) - Freeze juice and just add water - or make Popsicles.

5. Broth - If you make broth from scratch, this would make great serving sizes.

6. Baby Food - Again, great serving sizes.

7. Spices - I found this one.. how cool is that! Fresh spices in January!

It's easy once you start thinking outside the "ice cube tray!" What could you use (or do you use) an ice cube tray for?

Ya know when a recipe calls for using 1/2 a can of broth, tomato sauce, or something else that you won't be using again in the next few days... put the remnants into the ice-cube tray, freeze and then put into a zip-lock bag for later use.

I have also been told that you can chop up your fresh herbs growing all summer, add a little water, and create a basil cube or sage cube to use in winter recipes.
