Why feel guilty for making life simpler?

So, here I am... catching up on some blog posts looking for some fantastic item for my Friday Finds and I ran across this post about saying yes to less (thanks Laura by the way). I had to laugh... Laura doesn't seem like the type to get fired up about something... but she did, and I have to say that I got a little fired up too!

In her original post, she discussed how so many bloggers are posting about ways to simplify the holidays, be more organized, get everything done, blah, blah, blah (I too am guilty as charged).

Then, when you read the 60+ comments to Laura's post... all these lovely ladies comment as though they just needed to hear that it was okay to say enough is enough. What is up with that?

Laura quoted something from Organizing Mommy (which, by the way, I love this list) about what she is giving herself permission NOT to do for the holidays. Then, Laura shares with us, what she is giving herself permission NOT to do this holiday.

Okay, first, let me say why does life demand us to give ourselves permission to not do something?  It's really frustrating to know that we need someone to tell us it's okay to let go. Why is that?

It's like we all feel the need to have a Martha Stewart holiday everyday? Why do we need to give ourselves permission to do things differently and make our lives easier?

Most of all... why do we have to feel guilt for trying to make our life simpler?

Personally, this shouldn't just shouldn't be. In the last year, I have had to let go of things, make changes and it actually allowed me to see that life is too hard to measure up to our expectations.  SAY YES TO LESS needs to be the theme for 2009!

So, in an effort to promote the SAY YES TO LESS... Starting January 3rd... I am going to start a SAY YES TO LESS Sunday post. Each week I am going to make a conscience effort to SAY YES TO LESS each week! Come along for the ride...
