YES TO LESS: No more magazines, Cottage Living bit the dust
Welcome to Say Yes to Less 2009!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of my goals this year is to say yes to less a little more. I want to help busy people realize that we don't always have to do thing for the sake of doing them. I have set three goals for myself this year:
1. Trying new things because I can, not because I have to.
2. Get back to the things I enjoy, because I love to do them.
3. And finally, continue to grow in what I am good at, because it is about helping others.
We have only one life... why don't we enjoy it while we are living it!
I knew it was a sign of things to come when I opened my mail the other day and saw the Dear John letter from Cottage Living.
One of my "newer" magazine subscriptions in the last few years has officially bit the dust. Not the first Dear John I have gotten and it doesn't really surprise me that much... sounds like the publishers are saying yes to less also!
I have spent the last few years relishing in my glossy pages, but a few months ago, I decided I really needed to start cutting back in that department. Not only is it a big financial commitment, but do I really need 20+ magazines?
In 2007, I was subscribing to about 18+ magazines, and now... after some effort and trimming, I am down to a whopping NINE. What is really exciting for me about this, is that of these nine, I personally only subscribe to five, the others were gifts!
Two things to think about when it comes to magazines:
1. If you don't read them, don't renew.
2. Don't be fooled by the never ending "renew your subscription" mailings you get... always check the mailing label (it states when your subscription expires).
Hello! I popped over from Toni's site. Excellent post about menu planning!
Wow. I subscribe to two magazines and I thought that was alot. (Cottage Living and BH&G). But I would imagine that, in your line of work, you do need alot of magazines to keep you on top of your game, huh? That way you can see what's out there and what's the newest thing and all!
Great advice here. I always check the label because they are tricky with those letters they send, lol!
Thanks so much for stopping by and you are totally right, I do use a lot of magazines for research and to keep up on trends. Such a bummer about Cottage Living, it really was one of my top favorites. I hope you stop by again sometime! Have a super year!
